Pompey legend David James was at the Isle of Wight Festival with BT Sports, which had its own field at the event showing the World Cup matches on a big screen.

It was the former Pompey and England keeper’s first ever music festival.

And he told The News how he had wanted to see Saturday night’s headliners, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, but of course this clashed with the opening match of England’s campaign against Italy.

He said: ‘The bands haven’t been bad - the football wasn’t great though.’

James was hanging out in the backstage area on Sunday, chatting with some of the acts, including upcoming rockers, The Strypes, who took him on in a penalty shoot-out.
