Pompey Legends to tackle golden challenge

Pompey legends will be among those taking part in the Gosport Golden Mile in June.

A four-strong squad featuring Alan Knight, Lee Bradbury, Linvoy Primus and Tony Male will tackle the popular race on Sunday, June 19.

Running specialists, Absolute Running, from Gosport, will also welcome a team of sporting stars put together by ex-Blues defender Dave Waterman and boxer Floyd Moore, for their Corporate Challenge.

Waterman’s squad will be running in aid of the Oakley Waterman Caravan Foundation.

Pompey Legends will be raising funds for GAFIRS, the inshore volunteer rescue service.

Primus said: ‘The guys love getting involved in these community events as we all have a story that is either personal, or we know someone who has had to deal with their own issues.

‘If we can help in any way, it’s a great feeling.’

Event organiser Nick Carter, of Absolute Running said: ‘We are absolutely delighted that local sports stars are giving up their family time to join us and help make it a special occasion for fans and runners.’

This year’s event will have the usual Junior Golden Mile, for those aged under 16 on race day, followed by the Golden Mile and a 5K Fun Run.

It will also see the inaugural Wheelchair 800 metre promenade sprint.

All races have chip timing and are licenced events, with cash prizes for category winners and spot prizes provided by the race sponsors.
