Pompey loanee on the mark
Ben Tollitt opened his Tranmere goal account with a stunning strike against Dover Athletic.
The on-loan winger headed the ball over Jamie Grimes before unleashing a fierce right-foot half-volley from the angle.
The 79th-minute finish sealed a 4-1 victory for the visiting Rovers at Perry’s Crabble Stadium on Saturday.
Dover had taken the lead after Aswad Thomas headed home former Pompey product Sam Magri’s cross from the right.
The leveller was laid on by Tollitt, Andy Cook netting his left-wing cross from close range.
Tollitt, who is on loan with the National League side until January, was recalled for Saturday’s fixture by Micky Mellon.
The 21-year-old has been in-and-out of Mellon’s side since taking over as manager last month, yet has impressed supporters.
It total, he has started three matches and been substitute twice since arriving from Fratton Park in September.
Elsewhere, Adam May and Brandon Haunstrup featured for Sutton United in their last-gasp draw at York City.
The Minstermen appeared to be heading for a 2-1 victory, only for Jamie Collins’ 89th-minute penalty to level matters.
May was named in the starting line-up for the Bootham Crescent clash before he was withdrawn in the 69th minute.
Haunstrup appeared as a 73rd-minute substitute for left-back George McLennan as he seeks to break into Paul Doswell’s side. The Pompey duo are scheduled to spend an initial month with the National League side.
At Salisbury, Alex Bass was a member of the team eliminated at the first qualifying stage of the FA Trophy.
Steve Claridge’s men suffered a 3-2 home defeat to Southern League premier division side Chippenham Town on Saturday.
The on-loan keeper was given no chance when David Pratt netted from close range in the 90th minute of the Raymond McEnhill Stadium clash.
Meanwhile, Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain inspired Eastbourne Borough’s 1-0 victory over Bishop’s Stortford.
The midfielder chipped in a 41st-minute cross from the right which was turned in at the far post by Elliott Romain.
That was enough to earn the hosts a National League South victory, lifting them into 14th spot in the division.
Oxlade-Chamberlain, who also helped himself to an assist in the previous weekend’s 2-2 draw at Truro, was substituted in the 80th minute for Miguel Baptista.
Finally, Dory Yates’ Dorchester Town progressed into the next stage of the FA Trophy following victory over Barnstaple Town.
The Pompey youngster was recalled to the defence and featured for the full 90 minutes of their 3-1 success.
