Pompey midfielder told: Shoot on sight

Pompey boss Michael Appleton wants the talented on-loan midfielder to continue letting fly with shots after getting off the goal mark.

Allan grabbed his maiden Blues strike from long distance against Crystal Palace on Tuesday – with the aid of a deflection.

Appleton revealed the 20-year-old has been taking flak from his team-mates for shooting on sight.

But he has encouraged him to continue with that policy.

Appleton said: ‘I think, if you keep knocking on the door, it happens.

‘You only have to see Scott in training. He gets a bit of stick for being greedy off the other lads!

‘He loves having the ball at his feet and going on runs.

‘He can strike the ball well, given the opportunity.

‘He probably felt he deserved it (against Palace).

‘My message to him is to keep shooting.’

Allan has spoken of his delight at breaking his goal duck for Pompey at the 13th time of asking.

The West Brom talent has impressed with his quality since moving to Fratton Park on a temporary basis.

Allan spoke of his pride at playing for Pompey after arriving in England at the start of the year, following a £300,000 move from Dundee United to the Baggies.

He hopes that his creative manner of playing the game has been well received by Blues supporters.

Allan said: ‘It’s been an honour to play for the team, really.

‘I’ve loved being down here, even if the results have been up and down.

‘Playing in the derby was something special I won’t forget.

‘I like to entertain the supporters – and I hope they appreciate that.’
