Pompey not seeking sales ahead of deadline

That is the pledge from Mark Catlin ahead of the Wednesday, August 31 deadline.

Paul Cook has a 29-strong squad at his disposal following a summer which has seen 12 new arrivals at Fratton Park.

Meanwhile, Matt Tubbs, Paul Jones, Adam Webster and Adam McGurk have departed ahead of their existing deals expiring.

Kal Naismith continues to remain on the transfer list as Cook attempts to move on the winger.

Throughout football there is sure to be a flurry of activity ahead of the transfer window’s closure, particularly following the removal of the emergency loan system.

Pompey themselves have the likes of Conor Chaplin and Adam May who are highly regarded.

Yet Catlin insists the club are not looking to cash in on their talent.

Pompey’s chief executive said: ‘We do not want to sell any players.

‘We are not looking to sell and do not need to sell any players.

‘There has been interest in Kal Naismith, who remains on the transfer list.

‘But there have been no enquiries or bids for Conor Chaplin this summer.’

Of Pompey’s present squad, Alex Bass and Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain are currently on loan at Salisbury.

Jack Whatmough is injured, while Brandon Haunstrup and Matt Clarke are on the comeback trail.

The transfer window ends at 11pm next Wednesday, although Catlin wouldn’t rule out more business from the Blues.

He added: ‘As we all know, football moves very quickly and you can never say never.’
