Experimental361.com, which is run by the Press Association’s head of data analysis, Ben Mayhew, has forecast the Blues will finish ninth in the table this season – their current league position.

The stats have taken into account Pompey’s remaining 11 fixtures and they’re dovetailed with how many goals Kenny Jackett’s side are likely to score and concede per game.

It predicts the Blues have a 12 per cent chance of finishing in the top six, with Pompey netting an average of 1.36 goals per match and conceding 1.28.

Meanwhile, it feels Jackett’s outfit have an 8.5 per cent chance of finishing in the bottom half of the table – but are 100 per cent safe from relegation.

The stats foresee Wigan clinching the League One title, with Paul Cook’s side given a 90 per cent chance of finishing in the top two.

Blackburn are tipped to claim the second automatic promotion spot, with Shrewsbury, Rotherham, Scunthorpe and Charlton finishing in the play-off places.

Bradford and Plymouth have been forecast to finish seventh and eighth respectively.

Bury, MK Dons, Rochdale and Northampton have all been predicted to be relegated to League Two.
