But the Blues are confident a move for Gary Roberts can be tied up.

A holiday break for manager Paul Cook is likely to see a lull in transfer activity this week.

The Football League conference is Portugal will also be a barrier to deals being finalised.

That begins tomorrow and runs until Friday, with owners and executives in the Algarve.

Chairman Iain McInnes, chief executive Mark Catlin, and finance director Tony Brown are representing Pompey.

That will offer the platform for talks, but with the key players when it comes to signing off deals out of the country, no moves are due to be finalised.

Cook remains keen on adding Roberts to his options, however. The Pompey boss is still upbeat about the chances of being able to bring in the player from the club he left last month.

Chesterfield last week confirmed a bid had been knocked back by Pompey for the 31-year-old.

Making that news public could stir interest in the player, who has gained promotion or reached the play-offs in the past six seasons of his career.

Bury are keen on the former Swindon and Huddersfield man after gaining promotion to League One. Catlin was staying coy on any interest in Roberts.

He said: ‘We won’t talk about players until there is a signature at the bottom of the contract.

‘That is especially the case with any players who are currently contracted with other clubs.’
