Andy Awford admitted he had to win a personal battle with his emotions on his return to Fratton Park.
The former Pompey boss is currently in temporary charge at Luton and led his side to a point in today’s goalless draw.

Awford clearly still has huge affection for the club he served with distinction as a player – and also saved from relegation two seasons ago as caretaker boss.
But after his departure as manager last term, he admitted he had to be professional in his approach to today’s game.
Awford said: ‘It was different, I won’t lie.
‘It was a weird one staying in a hotel with the team for a game at Fratton Park when I live 20 minutes up the road.
‘It was a little bit emotional at times.
‘It was nice to see the staff and see a few people again.
‘But it was bizarre to be in the away dressing room after all these years.’
Awford also insisted he was not trying to stay out of the limelight under a baseball cap on the touchline.
He laughed: ‘I have to wear a hat these days as I’m going thin on top!
‘I was concentrating on doing my job. We had our game plan, we executed it very well I felt and I think we deserved our point.
‘At the end, I wanted to show my appreciation to the Luton fans.
‘But I also wanted to show my appreciation to the Portsmouth fans for what they have done for the football club. My feelings towards them haven’t changed.
‘It’s a good club and I wish them all the best for the future.’
