Southend 3-1 Pompey: They said what?

Have your say

Michael Appleton believes Pompey’s sleepy first-half performance led to his team’s downfall against Ipswich.

Appleton and his team went down to a 1-0 loss against the Tractor Boys, with Michael Chopra’s 13th minute effort decisive.

The players and staff saluted fans who stayed long after the whistle and showed their defiance with their club applying to go into administration.

But, on the pitch, Appleton was not happy with what he saw from his men in the first 45 minutes.

And to make matters worse Liam Lawrence and Greg Halford were both forced off with injuries.

Appleton said: ‘I didn’t see that first-half performance coming.

‘We weren’t with it at all.

‘We were better after the break, but did we do enough to get anythng out of it? I’m not sure.

‘Now we have another two injuries as well.’
