Aston Villa loanee could be a '˜tremendous' Portsmouth asset

A fit and firing Andre Green is a '˜tremendous' asset for Pompey to have within their ranks.

That is the verdict of The News' chief sports writer, Neil Allen, in the latest edition of Pompey Talk.

Green arrived at Fratton Park from Championship side Aston Villa back in August, but his loan spell has proved a frustrating one so far.

The highly-rated 20-year-old only returned to training last week after having a cyst removed from his knee in September.

That has limited the winger to just two appearances so far during his time at Fratton Park.

But he is set to be handed another chance when Pompey play host to Spurs under-21s in the Checkatrade tomorrow night.

And Allen believes now is the time for the Villa loanee to step up for the Blues and show his true quality.

He said: '˜Andre is highly-regarded but he's had an injury-hit year-and-a-half, really.

'For himself he needs to get regular football, that is why he came down here.

'I genuinely think if you've got a fit Andre Green on the bench, that is a tremendous asset to have.

'You can put him on the left and Kenny Jackett has also talked about him as a number 10 '“ perhaps he can go on the right as well.

'To have someone like that on the bench, who can effect games with his pace, directness and his ability, that can be really, really key.

'Joe Mason is injured at the moment, but he's not really done a lot when he's had his opportunities.

'To have a loanee who can come off the bench, like Andre Green, can be massive, it really, really can.

'Hopefully he can start that on Tuesday night.'
