Andy Awford’s long-anticipated appointment as Pompey boss has today been sealed.
The 41-year-old this morning held talks with staff before the inevitable announcement was made officially by the club.
Such was the strength of his second spell in charge as caretaker boss, he was the sole candidate for the job on a permanent basis and had been holding talks since last week.
Similarly, he has overwhelmingly been the supporters’ choice following five wins and a draw – during which the Blues’ Football League’s safety was secured.
It completes a remarkable journey for the former PE teacher who has also been a player, captain, Academy manager, first-teach coach, reserve-team coach and chief scout at Fratton Park.
Awford has penned a 12-month rolling contract and Saturday’s visit of Plymouth marks the final match of the League Two season.
