Richie Barker saluted his players for responding to their Scunthorpe hammering with victory over Accrington Stanley tonight.
Jake Jervis’ 48th-minute goal decided the Fratton Park contest to give the Blues a 1-0 victory and momentum up the League Two table.
With a tough away trip to Chesterfield coming up, it was imperative to defeat James Beattie’s side at home, as well as return to winning ways.
And Barker was delighted with how a side consisting of five changes bounced back from Saturday’s 5-1 mauling.
He said: ‘It’s not going to be pretty at times. We set out with something we wanted to do, we asked for a reaction, we asked for a mentality change – and we got that.
‘We are never going to get everything at the moment, there is such a transition going on and can’t suddenly go from one extreme to another.
‘The pleasing thing for me during the win was the attitude and the clean sheet.
‘We probably should have won by one more goal, to be honest, and made it a little bit more comfortable than it was.
But there was some tension throughout everybody and they were determined to do well.
‘In terms of improving our home record, that is back-to-back home wins and back-to-back clean sheets.’
