Steve Cotterill has revealed he is closing in on his ninth recruit of the summer.
And the player could be signed before tomorrow’s visit of Cardiff.
The Blues boss is eager to bring three new signings to Fratton Park before the transfer window closes on Wednesday.
He insists he is already near to snapping one of them up.
Cotterill would not be drawn on the identity of his target.
However, a Hungarian defender has been training with the club for at least the past two weeks.
Regardless, Cotterill believes the potential new signing represents a ‘calculated risk’.
He said: ‘We are going to add in one area. Definitely.
‘That, I would say, is a calculated risk.
‘It will probably be before the weekend, but it is one of those calculated risks so I don’t know if they will be involved or not.
‘I will have to think about that, really.
‘It’s not a huge risk, I’m just taking a calculated risk.
‘What I am saying by that is I have seen what I have seen, I like what I have seen.
‘Is he going to end up getting into the first team? That will depend on him, really.
‘He is only a young boy, he’s got good potential, so I’m 99.9-per-cent sure that will happen.
‘I don’t really want to elaborate any more until it is done.’
