Steve Cotterill praised his side after Pompey’s amazing run finally came to an end.
Bristol City defeated the Blues 2-1, bringing to a halt six successive victories which have dismissed relegation fears.
Albert Adomah and a Greg Halford own goal gave the hosts the lead before Dave Kitson pulled one back in stoppage time.
But the Blues boss was delighted with his team’s display.
Cotterill said: ‘We didn’t deserve to lose that – we played better than them.
‘The players don’t need picking up, they did nothing wrong, the spirit is still great in there.’
