Boss hoping Wright can bolster Pompey’s squad

Have your say

Pompey are set to cajole another start out of ageing magician Kanu tonight.

Steve Cotterill looks likely to turn to the Nigerian star against Norwich, with Dave Kitson still struggling with a rib injury.

Liam Lawrence is also a doubt to face the Canaries as he finds his way back from a leg injury picked up against Cardiff.

Ritchie de Laet and Joel Ward also have niggles going into the game but Cotterill expects both men to be okay to feature.

Hermann Hreidarsson has to decide whether to play on with a knee problem.

With Kitson set to miss out, Kanu looks likely to start his second game on the bounce.

Cotterill has no qualms about that, though, and again paid tribute to his talismanic talent.

He said: ‘I’m always pleased with Kanu.

‘The more you know about your players the less they will disappoint you.

‘So there’s no point in looking at Kanu and thinking he’ll run the channel for 90 minutes.

‘He almost disrespects that kind of ball.

‘It happened against Swansea and he disrespected it straightaway.

‘He looked at the player as if to say “what are you doing putting it there? I’m stood here, so why are you putting it there?”. I chuckled about it.

‘You don’t want to be made to look a fool by him but he does it on a regular basis.

‘He’s just a fantastic man and he deserves every accolade he gets in football.’

Cotterill isn’t prepared to take any risk on injuries going into the clash tonight.

He said: ‘Dave Kitson and Liam Lawrence are doubts and so are Joel and Ritchie.

‘Kits and Liam are the bigger ones, though.

‘There’s no point in risking any of them.

‘It just means having one sub instead of two!’
