Brave Pompey Academy exited the FA Youth Cup at the third-round stage with a narrow 1-0 defeat to Bolton Wanderers at Fratton Park.

The Blues who began the tie as underdogs, did themselves proud, pushing their Premier League under-18 counterparts all the way in front of a partisan 367 crowd, succumbing to Jamie Thomas’ superb second-half strike.

Brandon Joseph-Buadi and Lewis Gill were both denied from close-range after the FA Youth Alliance League hosts had fallen behind, but try as they might, Mikey Harris’ side could not force extra-time.

The Fratton faithful acknowledged the home side’s efforts, though, clapping the beaten, but by no-means disgraced, Blues off the pitch.
