Phil Brown has downplayed being linked with the Fratton Park post.
The 55-year-old previously applied for the Pompey job before Richie Barker was appointed in December 2013.
Tonight he steered his Southend side to a 2-0 win over Newport County to occupy fifth in League Two.
But afterwards he insisted he was concentrating on the Shrimpers rather than commenting on speculation.
He told the Southend Echo: ‘I’ve got a massive job to do here.
‘We’ve got a minimum of four games to go and the task is to get promoted.
‘That’s what I came here to do and my focus is purely on that.
‘We want to get in the top three, but if it’s the play-offs then we will focus on that and I certainly will be too.’
