Jack Compton prepared to seal a return to Pompey and insisted: I love this club.
Michael Appleton is hoping to offer the former Blues trainee a Fratton Park comeback.
That will see Compton’s career come full circle after being released in 2008.
The 23-year-old admitted he was left ‘gobsmacked’ by the offer to link up with his old side again after leaving Falkirk.
Now it looks set to become a permanent comeback – when Appleton can make a move in the transfer market.
Compton said: ‘It sounds that as soon as we are okay to sign players I will be able to come in and join for a year.
‘I will keep my fingers crossed. It’s come full circle for me. I’ve been away and got my experience.
‘I’ve been up in Falkirk but I didn’t want to be in Scotland anymore.
‘So I’ve come down here and I’m enjoying it at the moment.
‘The manager said he was looking for a wide player, so I got the chance to come in and join the team.
‘I left in 2008. It was a few years ago but I love this club and would love to play for it again. Hopefully I will get that chance.
‘I have always loved Pompey. They gave me my first opportunity to play football.
‘It’s such a good feeling to be back here. As soon as they got in contact I was gobsmacked.
‘I cancelled all other clubs I was talking to and grabbed this chance because I’ve got an opportunity to play for Portsmouth again.’
