Pompey winger set for Blackpool return

Steve Cotterill paid tribute to the continuing fighting spirit of his men as the season edges to a close.

Pompey battled to a 1-1 draw at play-off-chasing Burnley today, despite having little to play for.

David Nugent opened the scoring 11 minutes after the break, before Chris Eagles levelled with 14 minutes left of an entertaining second-half.

Pompey could have nicked it late on but Nugent failed to take a one-on-one opportunity as he steamed through on goal.

Cotterill was sure his team were good value for a point.

He said: ‘I think we deserved something from the game.

‘I thought we were the better side in the first-half.

‘They came back into it in the second half.

‘We had a couple of fitness tests in the morning.

‘The guys went out there and gave everything, though.

‘We were worthy of the draw in the end.
