Steve Cotterill saluted Pompey’s patience as they battled to a 2-0 triumph over Scunthorpe at Fratton Park.
The Blues had to wait until shortly after the hour mark to break the deadlock, with Dave Kitson firing home the opener.
Substitute Aaron Mokoena then added the second with Pompey growing in confidence as the game wore on.
Cotterill said: ‘We had to be patient.
‘It was difficult to break them down, they made it really hard for us.
‘I was delighted for Kits, he works so hard out there and it was a fantastic goal against some big, old defenders.
‘His confidence has suffered, it happens to all strikers if they go without scoring for a while.
‘But we did better in the second half, we had to be patient but it came and it’s another win for us.’
