Crawley out to continue good form against Portsmouth

Yusuf Mersin is out to continue Crawley's impressive form against Pompey.

Kenny Jackett's side travel to the Broadfield Stadium in the Checkatrade Trophy tonight (7.45pm).

The Blues go into the clash on the back of a 2-0 defeat to Gillingham, which saw them surrender their unbeaten League One start.

Although the Reds are a division below Pompey, they've proved difficult to beat on their own patch this term.

Gabriele Cioffi's men have won their past five home games, including a 2-0 triumph over Cambridge on Saturday.

Although Mersin knows Jackett's men are favourites to win the match, he insists Crawley are relishing the battle.

The keeper told his club's website: '˜It was a brilliant result on Saturday and hopefully we can continue our good run of form.

'˜For the players that come in, including me, it's a good test against a really good Portsmouth team and hopefully we'll get the result as well.'

Although the Checkatrade Trophy is much-maligned, it still offers the opportunity of a Wembley appearance in the final.

Because of that, Mersin is adamant Crawley are taking the competition seriously.

He added: '˜We want to win and continue this run and get through to the next round.

'˜It's a good competition to go through.

'˜Everyone wants to play at Wembley, it's everyone's dream to play at Wembley, so hopefully we get as far as possible.' Â
