Defender Aaron Simpson has returned to Wolves.
The 19-year-old was a transfer-deadline-day loan recruit, yet has never featured for Pompey.
Signed as squad cover at right-back for the promotion run-in following the abolishment of the emergency loan window, Simpson was not even given an outing for the reserves.
However, he remains on loan and can return to Fratton Park if required.
Paul Cook said: ‘Aaron has gone back to Wolves at the minute due to his lack of opportunities.
‘He’s a young lad who has come in to offer cover if we had injuries.
‘We have a good relationship with Wolves, there are no issues there at all.
‘If we still need to play him then he can still be used and would return.’
