POMPEY are to host Derby County in the first round of the Capital One Cup, in the week commencing August 10.

Here are five previous Fratton Park encounters with the Rams from days gone by.

League Cup

September 11, 1974

Derby inflicted a 5-1 League Cup hammering on Pompey, who had Ron Tindall as caretaker boss following John Mortimore’s dismissal.

Peter Marinello netted for the Blues, but by that stage they were 4-0 down to the then Division One side.

Kevin Hector (2), Bruce Rioch, Francis Lee and a Phil Roberts own goal gave Dave Mackay’s future title winners the victory.

Division One

February 8, 2003

Harry Redknapp’s all-conquering side dismissed the Rams 6-2 as they swaggered to the Division One title.

Nigerian striker Yakubu marked his second Pompey start by scoring twice, while Svetoslav Todorov also grabbed two.

Paul Merson and Matt Taylor added their names to the scoresheet against a side managed by ex-Blues boss John Gregory.

Division One

April 12, 1993

Guy Whittingham scored twice and Paul Walsh also weighed in with a goal during a 3-0 Fratton Park win.

Victory kept manager Jim Smith in the promotion frame as they attempted to reach the Premier League.

League Cup

October 4, 1961

Johnny Gordon’s goal in front of 11,724 helped earn George Smith’s Division Three side a League Cup replay.

However, the tie subsequently sprang to life at the Baseball Ground, where Harry Middleton grabbed all four goals in a 4-2 Pompey victory.

January 19, 2008
