Former Pompey midfielder Nick Awford has signed for Ryman League premier division side Farnborough.

The 20-year-old son of ex-Blues boss Andy Awford, played four times for the Fratton Park club last season, before he was released in February.

Awford junior then joined the Hawks until the end of the season but the Vanarama National League south outfit rejected the opportunity to offer him a new deal.

That paved the way for the Yellows to secure his services on a one-year-deal.

Farnborough boss Spencer Day, speaking to, said: ‘Nick is a big signing for us.

‘He’s got plenty of pedigree and possesses just the type of quality we are looking for.

‘He has learned his trade at a top club for a number of years, he is reasonably physical and technically very good and I’m delighted to have him on board.

‘We had to push hard to get the deal through but Nick has made it clear he desperate to get back up to the Football League and that this is a springboard for him. We are more than happy with that.’
