Former Portsmouth defender Sol Campbell in talks over first managerial role

Sol Campbell is in talks with Macclesfield Town regarding their vacant managerial position, according to BBC Radio Manchester.

The 44-year-old, who captained Pompey to FA Cup glory in 2008, has been seeking his first job in football since retiring in 2011.

The ex-England international has never managed, but revealed to The News his desire to return to Fratton Park in a coaching capacity one day.

Now Campbell could be in line to replace Mark Yates at Moss Rose after he was sacked last month followingthe Silkmen's winless start to the League Two campaign. 

The Silkmen were promoted back into the Football League term after winning the National League title under John Askey.

Campbell was working with the England under-21s over last week's international break.
