Gareth Evans is desperate to win a new contract and test himself in the Championship with Pompey.

The fans’ favourite’s current two-year deal expires in June.

This season, he’s been a vital cog during the Blues’ League One title charge, scoring seven goals to date.

Promotion is Kenny Jackett’s side's chief aim and they're currently on the right path to achieve their target.

That would mean a return to the second tier for the first time in eight seasons.

Evans has never had the opportunity to play in the Championship during his career.

And the forward would relish the chance of do so at Fratton Park.

He said: ‘I’d love to test myself at another level.

‘I feel like I have proven myself in League One and League Two.

‘I’d love to have the opportunity to prove myself at Championship level, but that’s not a decision I have to make.

‘I feel like I have been a little bit unlucky not to play in the Championship.

‘You have to have a little bit of luck, I suppose, to get into the Championship at times.

‘I possibly haven’t had that and perhaps had injuries at the wrong time and things like that.

‘Like I say, I’d love to test myself and hopefully it is with Portsmouth.’
