Dan Smith scored four goals to inspire Pompey Academy to a 6-0 romp against Bristol Rovers in the Youth Alliance southwest division at Furze Lane today.
Matt Mayes and Bradley Lethbridge were also on target for the young Blues.
Pompey had to wait until the 26th minute to break the deadlock.
Joe Hancott’s cross from the left found captain Mayes and he finished from an acute angle.
The hosts doubled their lead on the half-hour mark.
Harry Kavanagh’s cross was cleared but only as far as Lethbridge, who cannoned home a half-volley from 25 yards.
Smith netted his first of the game six minutes before the interval.
He was brought down inside the box and stepped up to coolly slot home the penalty to make it 3-0.
The Blues kept their foot on the gas after half-time.
In the 54th minute, Smith grabbed his second in slightly fortunate circumstances.
Leon Maloney’s effort was blocked and Rovers’ clearance ricocheted off Smith and into the back of the net.
There was nothing lucky about the Warsash talent’s hat-trick goal on 61 minutes, however.
Josh Flint’s inch-perfect corner picked out Smith at the back post and he steered his right-footed effort calmly beyond the Pirates goalkeeper.
And the imposing forward grabbed his fourth and Pompey’s sixth when he remained composed to finish a one-on-one chance with 15 minutes remaining.
