The former Pompey Academy midfielder penned a six-month deal at League Two outfit Morecambe earlier this week.

Yet the Belgian had a stint out of the game after being released by Walsall at the end of last term.

Cuvelier joined the Blues' youth set up as a 16-year-old from Mouscron in 2009.

The Anderlecht-born talent left the south coast just a year later, however, and penned a deal at Stoke City.

Cuvelier struggled to make a breakthrough at the Potters, though.

He didn't make a solitary first-team appearance and had spells on loan at Walsall and Peterborough.

Cuvelier left Stoke in 2013 and moved to Sheffield United for an undisclosed fee.

But the former Belgium under-21 international couldn't nail down a regular starting spot at Bramall Lane, either.

He played only 19 times over a three-year stint.

Walsall was the next club Cuvelier signed for in 2016, but he was released at the end of last term following 46 games over three campaigns.

The 26-year-old spent pre-season with League One side Scunthorpe. He was confident of winning a contract but wasn't offered one at Glanford Park.

That resulted in the past few months being '˜extremely difficult' for Cuvelier.

To make ends meet, he was forced to take up a job delivering pizzas.

Cuvelier told Morecambe's website: '˜I was with Scunthorpe during the majority of pre-season and I was confident I was going to sign there.

'˜In the end it didn't happen and, as it was, it didn't leave me much time to find a club with only a week left before the start of the season.

'˜The last couple of months have been extremely difficult, they've been a rollercoaster emotionally and I found myself delivering pizza just to get some money coming in.'

But Cuvelier has now handed his notice in to the pizza shop he was working in after signing for the Shrimps until the end of the campaign.
