Pompey got 2012 off to a flier with a 2-0 win over Watford.
Marko Futacs and Hayden Mullins were the second-half goal heroes as Michael Appleton’s men grabbed a deserved victory.
Futacs grabbed his second goal in two starts as he nodded home the opener eight minutes after the restart.
Then Mullins rounded it off with a low drive with three minutes remaining.
Watford were reduced to 10 men after 83 minutes as Scott Loach was sent off after being penalised for deliberate handball outside of the box..
Pompey created chances throughout the match, with Futacs lively and Joe Mattock impressing as his current loan agreement comes to a close.
Erik Huseklepp was also a handful for the Blues and Watford could have few complaints with the defeat.
The win lifts Pompey to 17th place on 31 points.
