Andre Green revealed he turned down interest from Championship clubs to join Pompey.
The winger signed for the Blues on a season-long loan from Aston Villa yesterday.
The England under-20 international is highly regarded at Villa Park but has been sent out to gain regular first-team minutes following the arrivals of Anwar El Ghazi and Yannick Bolasie.
Green could have remained in the second tier, with Bolton, Blackburn, Ipswich and Norwich chasing his signature.
But moving to Pompey was an ‘easy option’ for the Solihull-born ace.
He said: ‘I’m really excited. It’s a massive club, great facilities, great players and obviously I’ve heard about the fans.
‘I spoke to the manager about the move and my family as well and I need to play football every week.
‘Coming from Villa in the Championship, it would have been a bit of a similar situation (if he’d have stayed in the division).
‘To come to Portsmouth was an easy option for me. I knew straight away I was going to come here with them at the top end of the league and it’s exciting to be here.’
