Guy Whittingham was left to rue a host of missed chances as Pompey had to settle for a 2-2 draw at Accrington Stanley.
The visitors found the net thanks to two David Connolly’s strikes in the second half – one of which came from the penalty spot.
But the Blues were found guilty of some wasteful finishing over the entire 90 minutes and were made to pay, with Peter Murphy adding to his opener on 48 minutes with an equaliser for the hosts five minutes from time.
That was tough to take for Whittingham.
However, he was still pleased with the performance of his side following last weekend’s humbling at the hands of Oxford.
‘We created enough chances to win a couple of games,’ said Whittingham.
‘I am disappointed we have not come away with three points, of course I am.
‘Having said that, it’s a start.
‘I think we played some good football and were a lot more solid shape-wise.
‘We remained patient and knew we would create chances.
‘But we know we have to be more clinical in front of goal.
‘And that is the one disappointment because it meant we could not come away with maximum points.’
