Pompey v Charlton: pre-match talking points

Greg Halford was today back in Pompey training after signing for the remainder of the season.

And Steve Cotterill is eyeing a second loan capture before the week is out.

The Blues boss had made no secret of his desire to bring Halford back to Fratton Park on loan to bolster his squad.

That was agreed yesterday when the 26-year-old Wolves man put pen to paper, although he will miss the trip to Nottingham Forest through suspension.

Cotterill has now turned his attentions to sealing a loan swoop for another player.

He hopes that deal will be concluded in time for him to line-up against Forest on Saturday.

David Lampitt was also presented with a list of three permanent signings by Pompey’s boss at the end of last week.

Regardless, Cotterill is delighted to have brought Halford back to Fratton Park.

He said: ‘We have signed Greg until the end of the season, which is great news.

‘He’s done well for us, is flexible and has scored some goals.

‘We are pleased to have him back.

‘Obviously I was disappointed with him getting sent off against Watford. I thought it was very poor of him, he knows my feelings as regards to that.

‘But we’re delighted to have him back. It’s a bit of a boost for us.’

Meanwhile, Pompey are hoping to register a second loan signing this week before tomorrow’s midday deadline.

Cotterill added: ‘Hopefully we can have somebody else in by the weekend.

‘We need more players and I’m hoping that can come off.’

As it stands, Cotterill has two loan slots available to meet the criteria of five in a match-day squad.
