Havant ace Stevens targeting Shock N Awe titleÂ

The Havant talent is hoping a victory at Portsmouth Guildhall on Saturday will earn him a shot at the 170lb strap. 

Stevens meets George Dalziel at Shock N Awe 28 aiming to move his record to 3-1.

Last April, the former Warblington School pupil blitzed past Jake Chandler with a first-round TKO success at the Mountbatten Centre.

Stevens, who trains at Fratton's Gym 01, feels a win over Dalziel will make him the next contender for the silverware.

And the 20-year-old is aiming at turning professional in a year's time.

Stevens said: '˜I'm full of confidence. The two knockout victories have really boosted my confidence.

'˜In this fight, I want to do exactly the same as I did in April.

'˜But now I am more of an all-rounder. I like to work on my ground game a lot more and use it during my fights '“ my debut was just a scrap!

'˜Without a doubt I want to be challenging of the amateur welterweight title.

'˜Shock N Awe 29 is on around April time and, if I win on Saturday, I'll definitely be heading towards that.

'˜I've already spoken to Brian (Adams) about it and he's told me next April we'll be looking at that title.

'˜Then maybe at the end of 2019 we'll look at making my professional debut.

'˜Brian's said to keep turning up to training and any time next year I should start thinking about that next step.

'˜Two years as an amateur is definitely enough and this time next year hopefully I'll be turning pro.'

Stevens enters the cage for the first time since his impressive win over Chandler.

A seven-month absence wasn't something he necessarily planned.

But it's allowed him to add a number of tools to his repertoire.

'˜It's been a long seven months and I didn't expect it,' added Stevens.

'˜It is what it is, though. I'd liked to be in the cage once every month or two but it's finding the opponents.

'˜There are plenty of welterweights out there but it's getting a fight at the right time and place.

'˜During the lay-off it's been giving me a chance to sit back and learn a little bit.'
