The Irishman has lit up Pompey's season so far, registering six goals and five assists ahead of Saturday's clash against Gillingham.

Since his arrival from Derry City for an undisclosed fee, Curtis has quickly become a fan' favourite for his barnstorming performances and wholehearted commitment.

The south London-born talent is also one of the characters of the Blues dressing room, with his team-mates dubbing him '˜Banter Man.'

It's Hawkins who shares a room with Curtis when Kenny Jackett's side are on their travels, doing so ever since the pre-season trip to Cork.

The striker has the pleasure of seeing all of the Republic of Ireland under-21 international's antics.

And the former Dagenham & Redbridge ace feels Curtis' demeanour is a key reason behind Pompey's early-season success.

Hawkins said: '˜Ronan is a special character.

'˜I'm lucky enough to share a room with him on our away trips.

'˜I see everything '“ all of it!

'˜But he's the light of this team at the moment and hopefully he keeps going.

'˜Believe me when I say in my football career that I've net met anyone like him!

'˜But he brings something to this team that you need.

'˜In person and in real life he has confidence and that only means he's going to have that sort of confidence for the rest of his career.'
