Oldham 0 Pompey 2: they said what?

Have your say

Brian Howard called for a speedy resolution to Pompey’s court dramas and vowed: We’re in this together.

The Blues skipper insisted now is the time for unity among everyone connected with the club, as the battle for its future continues.

Yesterday’s news of an adjournment to the High Court case in London which is crucial to Pompey’s future, means uncertainty surrounding the club continues.

Howard believes time is of the essence on that front, but demanded a collective spirit as his side also search for League One survival.

He said: ‘All the lads are eagerly awaiting the outcome of the case.

‘We’re all in it together, though. The fans are outstanding so it’s nice to give them something back and start picking up some results.

‘But we need to get the club stabilised so we can get people in the door on proper contracts.

‘We need to get some people in the door, some extra players with extra legs and a bit of quality.

‘I’ve spoken to Guy (Whittingham) about it all to relate back to the players.

‘He wants to sort it as soon as possible. As soon as it’s settled in court it will hopefully be sorted.

‘But we can’t do anything until then.

‘So now it’s about the hard work on the pitch. As soon as we can sort things off the pitch the better, but picking up points is the main thing.’

Yesterday’s news raises the prospect of things remaining unclear on the way forward for Pompey well into the January transfer window.

The fear is players will walk out of the door for nothing – as their contracts will allow.

Howard said: ‘The contract situation has to be a factor.

‘There are lads who have been thinking if they pick up an injury they might not get paid for a few months.

‘They’ve known they can’t sign for another club until January.

‘But hopefully we’ll get some positive news.’
