POMPEY know the Ipswich side they will face in tomorrow’s FA Cup third-round clash at Portman Road.
That is after Tractor Boys boss Mick McCarthy named his starting XI in this afternoon’s pre-match press conference.
McCarthy broke with tradition to deliver the team news to journalists well in advance of the usual hour before kick-off announcement.
And, as expected, the former Republic of Ireland manager has shuffled his pack for the visit of the Blues.
Of most interest to Pompey fans is the inclusion of former Fratton Park front man Luke Varney, who makes his first start for the Championship play-off-chasers since May.
There is also a debut for new signing Paul Digby, with the versatile 20-year-old Barnsley arrival named in the centre of defence.
Top scorer Daryl Murphy misses out for the hosts with a calf injury.
IPSWICH TOWN STARTING XI: Bialkowski, Chambers, Malarczyk, Digby, Knudsen, Skuse, Hyam, Maitland-Niles, Oar, Varney, Pitman
‘That’s the team and it’s one that is capable of winning that game,’ said McCarthy to East Anglian Daily Times.
