Kenny Jackett praised Pompey’s resolute performance after his side’s 1-0 victory against Plymouth.
Kal Naismith netted the only goal of the game, prodding home into an empty net in the 24th minute.
The Pilgrims pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages but the Blues held firm to retain their lead.
And Jackett lauded his troops’ resolve as Pompey claimed all three points against their modern-day rivals.
The Blues boss said: ‘Halfway through the second period the game changed and Plymouth put a lot of pressure on us.
‘We did very well to defend our box with a number of long ball and throws into our box.
‘We defended resolutely to hold on to our one-goal lead.
‘We certainly earned it and I’m pleased with my team as they showed both sides of the game to get the victory.’
