Kenny Jackett has denied Pompey have made an approach for Nottingham Forest youngster Ryan Yates.
Reports in the national press suggest the Blues are lining up a bid in the region of £500,000 for the 21-year-old.
But despite admitting to knowing the player, Jackett said no enquiry has been made for the midfielder.
Pompey were keen on Yates during pre-season, seeing a reported bid rebuffed in July.
And talk of that initial interest being followed up emerged after Millwall boss Neil Harris this week admitted that he’s weighing up whether to recall Ben Thompson early from his season-long loan spell at Fratton Park.
That could force Jackett to dip into the transfer market in January to reinforce his midfield options.
But speaking to The News, the Blues boss said no approach had been made for Yates.
‘I know the player but he’s not someone we’ve made an enquiry about.
‘I do know who you mean, though.’
Yates came through the ranks at Forest but has been restricted to just one appearance for Aitor Karanka’s Championship side this season.
