Kenny Jackett felt Pompey secured a deserved League One win over Southend.
Michael Turner put through his own net before Jamal Lowe doubled the Blues' advantage – both of which came in first half – as they ran out 2-0 victors.
An eighth successive triumph in all competitions moved Pompey six points clear at the summit.
And manager Jackett thought it was thoroughly deserved.
Although, the Blues boss admitted his side could have won by a more convincing margin.
Jackett said: ‘It was a well-deserved victory.
‘Going forward we created a lot of chances and had some key ones.
‘I’m pleased we got the two goals and defensively we negated them to very little.
‘They had a minimal amount going forward.
‘If we could have scored more it could have been a little bit more comfortable.
‘But it was a deserved victory and I was very pleased with the players.
‘It was a good performance.
‘Ben Close had a really good chance on the break in the second half, which I’m pleased didn’t cost us.
‘Their goalkeeper also made a good save from Ronan Curtis.
‘They were the ones in the second period as we were looking to get that killer third.
‘We worked hard both in and out of possession and I felt deserved the victory.’
