Goalkeeper who left the club my mutual consent at the end of his contract in summer 2010 but was tempted back by Blues boss Steve Cotterill.

As understudy to David James for much of his Pompey career, Ashdown made just a handful of appearances for the club he joined in 2004 from Reading.

But after James departed for Bristol City, he was finally installed as the club’s number one goalkeeper at the start of the 2010-11 campaign.

A fine shot-stopper, but with Pompey’s defence struggling for much of the campaign, Ashdown was often left exposed by those in front of him.
