Kranjcar: I'm off next summer

Niko Kranjcar has confirmed he will leave Pompey when his contract expires next summer.

Chief executive Peter Storrie had previously revealed in The News the Croatian was planning to see out his current deal at Fratton Park.

Now the playmaker has cited the lack of progress at the club as the main reason for moving on.

Kranjcar said: 'For now I am staying, but we have not strengthened like I would have liked us to.

'That's why I will not sign a new contract. It's one more season for me and then I'm off.'

It appears to signal the end of Pompey's efforts to change Kranjcar's mind and persuade him to committ to the club.

Storrie, speaking in last Friday's News, said: 'Niko has always made it clear he wants to stay and see out his current deal, but doesn't want to sign a new contract.

'That's his position and we respect his view – but we will continue to knock on his door and say "sign for longer".
