Caolan Lavery made his first appearance as Pompey reserves defeated Cardiff this afternoon.

The striker featured as a 61st-minute substitute as Ian Foster’s side ran out 2-1 winners at their Copnor Road training ground.

Conor Chaplin gave the hosts a 26th-minute lead when he poked home Kal Naismith’s pass.

Naismith himself got on the scoresheet in the 42nd minute with a fine left-foot volley.

Dylan Reece pulled one back in the 90th minute but it was too little too late for Cardiff’s development squad.

Lavery, who signed on loan from Sheffield Wednesday yesterday, looked bright after coming off the bench for a first glimpse in Pompey colours.
