Sam Magri is back at Pompey after Michael Appleton admitted the youngster’s move to Liverpool is set to break down.
The highly-rated defender was lined up for a switch to Anfield, having impressed on a trial last week.
But it is believed the Merseysiders have not been able to agree a fee for the 17-year-old Academy prospect.
There is still a chance of Magri leaving Fratton Park, though, with the likes of Stoke also keen on the England under-17 international.
Meanwhile, Appleton revealed that Luke Varney will be in the Blues’ squad for Saturday’s clash with Middlesbrough and that David Norris is now fully fit.
However, Kelvin Etuhu is still out injured.
