Matt Mayes celebrated a double for Pompey Academy as they came from behind to defeat Yeovil 4-2.
The striker notched either side of half-time to hand Mikey Harris’ under-18 side victory in the Youth Alliance League south west division.
A straightforward win appeared on the cards for the visitors when Mayes opened the scoring after seven minutes.
He calmly found the back of the net following Matthew Casey’s flick-on from a Kyle McDowell throw-in.
But the hosts levelled the score 10 minutes later, before taking the lead just before the half-hour mark.
It was an advantage the young Glovers took into the break – but one that didn’t last long when both teams returned for the second half.
Harvey Bradbury got the Blues back on level terms on 50 minutes.
He deflected home a Jez Bedford shot that gave the home keeper no chance.
Mayes then popped up to claim his second of the game when he latched on to the end of Bradbury’s flick, before rounding the keeper and firing into an empty net.
And an impressive second-half comeback was sealed on the final whistle when Bedford powered his way into the Yeovil penalty box before firing powerfully home.
