Pompey mull over permanent stay for loanee

Have your say

Izale McLeod will lead Pompey’s forward line at Aldershot tonight.

The former Barnet man will be among a number of triallists in Michael Appleton’s side for their latest friendly (7.45pm).

Liam Walker, Jon Harley, Mustapha Dumbuya and Luke Rodgers will also feature in the Recreation Ground fixture against the League Two side.

Simon Eastwood is pencilled in to play in goal following a minor shoulder problem picked up in Spain.

In addition, Appleton will be hoping to field Brian Howard, who last week gave the club until today to complete a free transfer move for him.

As it stands, the Blues boss’ hands remain tied and he is hoping the former Reading midfielder will not follow Simon Gillett out of the exit door.

Gillett has been training with Nottingham Forest since Monday with a view to a permanent move.

The trials of Lloyd Sam and David Preece have also come to an end after Appleton opted against following up his interest in the pair who featured during the tour to Spain and Gibraltar.

Youngsters Sam Magri, Adam Webster and Ashley Harris will also be given run outs.

Dan Thompson, Dan Butler, George Colson, Jed Wallace, Elliot Wheeler, Alex Grant and Andy Higgins could also be involved as they look to maintain their progress.

Meanwhile, Pompey have sold only around 850 tickets for Saturday’s visit of Bolton.

The Championship side represent the sole Fratton Park friendly for Michael Appleton’s side this season.

And Bournemouth have moved to allay fears among their fans over the League One curtain-raiser at Fratton Park.

The Cherries have told their supporters that anyone buying a ticket for the fixture on Saturday, August 18 will be entitled to a full refund should Pompey go out of business prior to the game.
