Andre Green is confident he’ll bring the pace Kenny Jackett has been thirsting for.

Green arrived from Aston Villa on Wednesday as Pompey moved quickly to bring in the highly-rated attacker on a season-long loan deal.

Villa fans were disappointed to lose the 20-year-old and have backed him to make a big impact at Fratton Park.

Green is known for his turn of pace, a quality Jackett feels his squad has been short of. The England age-group international is aware it’s an attribute opponents are wary about.

Green said: ‘First of all I need to prove I’m a good player.

‘I have to prove my worth on the left before I go more central and create. As I get more comfortable and more trust off the boys the understanding will come.

‘There are a quite a few players here who are quick. Jamal Lowe is quick.

‘I just want to be able to add some extra pace to the team. I want to use it to get into an area where I can cause problems.

‘It’s a good option to have that. Pace in the team is a problem for any other team.’

It’s been a whirlwind few days for Green, who has been struck by the extremely high level of training at his club for the season.

Green added: ‘Tuesday morning I got the call, by Wednesday morning I was travelling down. It all happened in a day!

‘We’ve got a young bunch here so I knew I’d fit in.

‘The training reminds me of international football. It’s quite sharp. Because the boys are so young everything is energetic.

‘It’s sharp and short. You need to think more and be mentally sharp as well That’s what I enjoy.’
