POMPEY’s pre-season kicks off today.

And Adam McGurk and Christian Burgess will be among the playing numbers as Paul Cook ties up his latest signings of the summer.

In addition, Michael Doyle remains on the Blues’ radar as they also seek to capture the 33-year-old former Sheffield United midfielder.

Free-agent McGurk will today seal a move to Fratton Park after the Northern Irish striker turned down a new deal at Burton Albion.

Defender Burgess, meanwhile, will join him in the Pompey ranks from Peterborough, after an undisclosed fee and personal terms were agreed last week.

Both could be part of the Blues first-team squad that will be put through a light session away from the club’s training ground as Cook eases the players into their return.

Fellow new recruits, Kyle Bennett, Kal Naismith, Enda Stevens and Gary Roberts, are all expected to be present for the first day with their new club.

Paul Robinson is available again following his fractured cheekbone, while Ben Close and Adam Webster will be there fresh from signing new summer deals.

The venue hosting the start of pre-season is understood to be in Fareham, with the club’s two new training pitches being given extra time to bed in.

On Friday, Cook and his squad will fly out to Portugal for a week of warm-weather training and team bonding.

Meanwhile, the Capital One Cup visit of Derby County is to be televised by Sky.

The fixture will now take place on Wednesday, August 12, at Fratton Park (7.45pm).

In addition, the Blues’ home League Two clash with Notts County has been moved to Friday, March 25 (3pm).
