David Nugent returned to haunt Ipswich yet again as he helped Pompey to a 2-0 success.

The Blues forward scored one and created the other for new-boy David Cotterill as his team’s flying form continued at Portman Road.

Nugent grabbed his 11th goal of the campaign - and his seventh in eight games against the Tractor Boys.

The only wonder was how Pompey managed to get the win after Ipswich pounded away at Steve Cotterill’s men in the first half - but passed up chance after chance.

The home side had at least six gilt-edged chances but failed to take any of them.

They were left to rue that as Nugent slammed in the opener 10 minutes after the restart.

He then freed Cotterill with 13 minutes left, who made no mistake from 12 yards out.

The win sees Pompey make it four successes on the bounce and 414 minutes without conceding a goal.

Cotterill’s battlers now sit in 13th place on 44 points - 10 points off the play-offs and 13 from the bottom three.
