As League Two’s big hitters, Pompey are out to punch their weight in this season’s promotion race.

But for first-year professional Chad Field, the fight to establish himself in Paul Cook’s first-team squad became all too real this weekend.

That’s after the Portchester talent laced up the gloves for a spot of offbeat pre-season training at Ballys Boxing Gym, only to be the unfortunate recipient of a low blow from fellow Academy graduate Brandon Haunstrup.

With the teenage defenders setting the tone with a high-energy spar in the ring, Field was left on his haunches by a stray Haunstrup jab, before recovering to continue the bout.

The uncomfortable moment was captured by The News sports reporter Jeff Marshman.

Haunstrup, however, took to his Twitter account under the username @B_Haunstrup to deny any wrongdoing, tweeting: ‘Not having that he’s (Field) trying to claim that as a low blow.’
