On January 18 1967, 50 years ago today, Pompey broke their record transer fee – paying £25,000 for Nicky Jennings.

Signed from Plymouth Argyle, Jennings scored 50 goals for the Blues in 236 games, during a seven-year south coast stay.

His fine service at Fratton Park saw the diminutive and nippy left-winger voted Pompey’s player of the year by supporters in 1970 and inducted in the club’s hall of fame in 2014.

Jennings died in June 2016, aged 70.
